CCAPL to host golf outing on July 8

The Carroll County Animal Protection League is holding a 4-person golf scramble on Saturday, July 8, at Carroll Meadows Golf Course with tee times starting at noon. The cost is $60 per person and this includes 18 holes of golf, cart, steak dinner and cash prizes.

Edgewater becomes par-3 course for charity

The Lady Lions golf team is hosting a par-3 golf outing on Friday, June 23, 5:30 p.m. at Edgewater Golf Course. All 18 holes at Edgewater will be turned into par threes. The cost is $200 per foursome and this includes a choice of hot dog or burger, chips and pop prior to the start.

The Minerva football program will once again sell shirts for the 2017 home opener. The T-shirts will be available at the Lions Den for $10 and will get the wearer admittance into the Sept. 8 contest versus Indian Valley. Order early, as a limited quantity will be available.

The Minerva Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the Class of 2017 until July 1. Nomination forms can be found on Minerva Local Schools website. Over the years, more than 70 members have been inducted.

Ohio hunters checked a total of 21,015 wild turkeys during the combined 2017 spring wild turkey south zone hunting season; northeast zone hunting season; and the youth wild turkey hunting season, April 22-May 28, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Minerva baseball players who received the prestigious Northeastern Buckeye Conference Scholar Athlete Award are Jack Hanley, Trey Carl, Jake Stewart, Shane Walters, Alex Kimble, Dominic Slentz and Cole Maley. Minerva Scholar Athlete Award honorees are Charlie Bolanz and Mike Hanley.

John Williams III inducted into Marion Harding HOF

Minerva Head Cross Country Coach John Williams III was recently inducted into the Marion Harding High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Williams graduated from Harding in 1975. He earned All-Ohio honors in cross country, and was selected to the All-Buckeye Conference twice.

Reusser earns OAC honor

Mount Union freshman Hannah Reusser capped off a solid freshman campaign as she was selected to the OAC honorable-mention team. Reusser, a Minerva graduate, posted 12-8 record on the mound with a 2.81 earned run average. She struck out 59 in 129 innings of work.

Macy Zeiger capped off a solid softball season by picking up the Most Valuable Player Award during the softball portion at the Malvern Spring Sports Banquet. Zeiger was also selected to the Inter-Valley Conference and East District first teams.

Jaret Majestic picked up the Ron Ebner MVP Award during the baseball portion of the Malvern Spring Sports Banquet. The Best Offensive Player Award went to Drew Hutchison, Jacob Foster received the Best Defensive Player Award, and Gavyn Potts earned the Most Improved Player Award.

The third annual Minerva Football Alumni Association four-person golf scramble will be held Saturday, June 10, at Clearview Golf Course with a shotgun start of 11 a.m. The cost is $80 and this includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner and beverages, including free beer.

Minerva Bowl's Palmer to be inducted into bowling HOF

Minerva Bowl owner Brad Palmer has been selected for induction into the Greater Canton Bowling Association's Hall of Fame. The event will take place June 11. Palmer has dedicated his life to bowling, along with his mom and dad, Bill and Bev Palmer.
