Most people are aware that eating whole grains is a vital part of a healthy diet.
Finding whole grains and whole grain products at the supermarket, however, can pose a challenge. And if a person can find whole grain products, working them in to a daily meal plan in new and tasty recipes can add to the challenge.
To help de-mystify whole grains and demonstrate how they can easily be a part of day-to-day cooking, Union Hospital is offering a free program entitled "Hop on the Grain Train." The event is Thursday, April 12, 7 p.m. in the UH Auditorium.
"It may be surprising to learn that whole grains are an excellent source of disease-fighting properties, often even more so that fruits and vegetables," said Pam Dummermuth, Union Hospital's Community Health and Wellness Program coordinator. "By attending this program you will learn what whole grains are, how they are packaged, and where to find them on the supermarket shelves."
Perhaps most importantly, Dummermuth says the program will offer the audience samples of whole-grain recipes to taste.
