The Rotary Club of Malvern is sponsoring a Field of Honor flag display from July 12-16 at the Malvern United Methodist Church grounds.
The Field of Honor, similar to the Healing Fields in Minerva in 2010, is intended to be a patriotic display of American flags to honor veterans and other military servicemen and women. The Club hopes to post over 800 flags which can be purchased by community members and sponsoring organizations in and around the Malvern area.
Organizations in the Malvern area were contacted in October to begin planning the event. A large number of volunteers are needed to assemble the flags, to lay out the field, to sell flags, and to man the area throughout the five days of the event. Sponorships are currently being sought from private citizens and area businesses and organizations. Individual flags will be available for $30, and sponsorships can be purchased for up to $2,500 for 50 flags.
At the organizational meeting the Rotary Club hosted area organizations to dinner and a presentation. Then a committee of Roger Bartley, who is heading up the Field of Honor, Rev. Wally Anderson, Club President Randy Smith, and Gary Pearce got down to the initial planning of the event. The field beside the Malvern United Methodist Church was chosen, and the date coincides with the FliteFest 2017 event at the John Furey airstrip.
Further information will be posted online or people can contact Roger Bartley at 330-868-4114 concerning sponsorships or volunteerism.
