Passion, inspiration, self-discipline, strength, health, accomplishment: each of these concepts could be considered a good goal to pursue in life, but for four Carrollton athletes, it's the combination of these goals that packs the punch for a better, healthier lifestyle.
Friends and business partners Colton Newell, Dustin Kempf, Ronny Hepner and Kevin Malone said they want to show people of all fitness levels how they can use those goals to change their bodies, their lifestyles and, potentially, even their lives.
"We've always been into sports, and it's always been a passion of ours for training and to have that self-discipline," explained Newell, an educator who coaches high school baseball.
"We want to inspire others to live the same goals, or even for people who don't have the same goals, to make them see you can change your body and you can accomplish great things doing it," he added.
"Our original dream was to have a place where people can go to make themselves better," said Malone, who is currently studying chiropractic care in Georgia and plans to set up his own practice in Carrollton after graduation.
"It's almost like a mechanic shop," he continued. "You get your brakes changed, you get your oil changed, you get your tires rotated. Well, let's figure out how to do that with our bodies too."
The result of the friends' shared vision is All in Training, which is located at 259 Third Street S.W. in Carrollton.
Fitness fans, as well as newcomers who are looking for a leg up on their health, can get a better idea of All in Training during the business's grand opening on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The event will feature training challenges and events; prizes, including free personal training sessions and a free one-month gym membership; and refreshments.
Newell, Kempf and Hepner will also present a seminar on Oct. 2 about All in Training's weight room, health and fitness topics, and weight loss strategies.
Although All in Training is a gym, the business's co-owners emphasize that health, not who can bench the heaviest weights, is the most important concept at the facility.
"A lot of people think we come in here and lift heavy weights. It's not about that," Newell commented. "It's about getting in here and getting healthy. We want people to live a healthy lifestyle, and we want people to be surrounded by others that have the same goals."
"We don't want people to feel intimidated when they come in here," said Bria Deitz, who offers personal training at the gym and assists with classes.
"Everyone here is encouraging and wants everyone to do well," added Hepner.
In keeping with their vision to help everyone towards better fitness, the facility's trainers will offer a mix of personalized training and classes that target health-oriented goals.
Malone, one of the business's founders, said he plans to combine his patients' care in the clinical setting with rehabilitative care at All in Training.
"Our original plan was to make it a campus where people can come and fix their bodies," he explained. "It won't just be chiropractic care. It will be fully integrative chiropractic care and the gym."
"You've got to teach people how to take care of their bodies. I want my patients to get back to the point where they're learning how to move and being active and pro-active about their health," he added.
Kempf, a Carrollton police officer who coaches at Carrollton High, specializes in athletic training at All in Training. Soon he will also offer a class in cardio high intensity interval training, which combines high-energy exercises with periods of slow, low-intensity exercises.
Hepner, a coach at Muskingum University, also offers training geared for athletes.
Newell offers strength and conditioning workouts at All in Training and is getting ready to offer a speed and agility class as well. He also specializes in personalized training sessions designed to help people lose weight or strengthen targeted areas of their bodies.
All in Training does offer fitness equipment. Clients can use the gym's free-weights, such as dumbells and barbells; resistance training bands; foam rollers for soft tissue exercises; deadlift equipment; cardio equipment; and squat racks.
However, the gym's co-owners said their training sessions focus on the body's common, everyday movements to increase fitness.
"We do have some machines, but we try to go more towards functional movements," Newell explained.
Before any of the training starts, All in Training's instructors ask their clients athletes and newcomers alike to get ready with a good attitude.
"We have positive attitudes around here, and we don't put up with negativity," Newell remarked.
So far, that positive mindset has paid off. All in Training's instructors said the gym has its own growing community of participants thanks to ongoing support from the greater community of Carrollton and beyond.
"The community has really supported us. We wouldn't be here without all of our members," Newell commented, adding that people from across Carroll County have joined.
New customers who are ready to bring their positive attitude to All in Training can choose from a variety of membership options based on their needs and schedules.
A one-day pass to try the gym out is $5, while a week's pass is $10. A one-month membership is $30, and a three-month membership is offered for $80.
Discounts are available for students, public service employees and military personnel, who can sign up for a one-month membership at $25 or a three-month membership for $75.
All in Training also offers a special discount for families that gives each additional family member a 15-percent discount after the first family member purchases the membership.
